Peggy's Dog Didn't Bark
Politically speaking, I wanna have Ms. Noonan's baby. She, Clarence Page, and David Gregory appeared on The Chris Matthew Show this week (seen in many markets right after Tim Russert's Meet the Press).
(T)his is like "Sherlock Holmes and the Dog That Didn't Bark." What is amazing is what didn't happen. Republicans didn't come forward and defend Trent Lott. They sat, they read it, they looked at it, they talked about it to each other, and one after another, Republicans, most of them--it's almost generational, under the age of 50, came forward and said, `This is unacceptable and it personally offends me.'...I'd love to be a godfather of that baby, but I'll settle for watching the Christening on TV.(M)any of those of us who were--who are not necessarily quick to be angry at conservatives, came forward with anger. I do think, in part, it's generational. And I think, in part, it tells you about a new--somehow, in terms of the aesthetics of the Republican Party, a new party being born.
