Meme of the week: Trust the CIA

For the last week we've heard so much about the CIA report that suggests a "bleak outcome" in Iraq, I couldn't help but wonder how good things must really be going over there. After all, weren't we told just weeks ago that we need someone really good as the new Director of Central Intelligence, because they're so screwed up?

Well, Citizen Smash brings us yet another letter from a confused Marine in-theater who wonders what the journalistic yahoos are thinking.

Don't fear, Major. They're on our side. Really they are. Ignore the fact that their own headline is contradicted by the 12th paragraph.

The CIA always says things are bleak. It's part of the bureaucratic, and more particularly, the intelligence imperative. No one ever hands you head if things turn out better than you predicted. If you are even marginally wrong in the direction however, you can just put an "Indict Me" sign on your back.
