Blake Goes Free, Nichols Case Unfinished

Robert Blake has best found not guilty on two of three counts against him. The second count resulted in a hung jury, and it is being reported the the charges have been dropped.

This trial took a long time to play out, as often happens in our justice system. Blake was in jail for a year. And now a jury has told us the prosecutor has not shown that he is guilty in the death of his wife. We may never know if he actually had a hand in her death, the evidence was indirect, the witnesses against him unreliable. This was a trial that needed time in order to render a reasonable verdict.

Our justice system often moves slowly, in order to get it right.

But in the case of Judge killer Brian Nichols it seems unnecessary for a drawn out legal ordeal. In fact, I ask, can anyone tell me why this prick should not have already been tried, found guilty, sentenced, and hopefully executed? Is there any question that he killed three people within the Fulton County Courthouse? No, there isn't. Sometimes we need a speedy verdict, sometimes wasting time is wasting justice.

Well why don't we just get out the picnic baskets, and go down to the town square. You bring the rope, and I will bring the camera to get it pictures.

Wasn't to long ago that this was the way it was done, I pray daily that we have grown beyond that "instant justice" mentality. I know it is hard sometimes to keep emotions in check, even when the crime is as horrendous as the one that Nichols commited, but I am trusting that the system will work the way it was made to, and that the LynchMob mentality will be overcome, if not done away with by a more sane, solutions based view of the situation.

Ken, did you not read the difference in the way Rick described each case and why the outcome can and should be different? Or do you disagree with the death penalty so much that any mention of "swift justice" makes you spout the word "lynch" in knee-jerk fashion?

It takes my breath away that anyone would look at an act of barbarity like what Mr. Nichols did and think it must be treated in some "sane, solution based" way. There is no way to reason with evil, it simply must be excised.

Well Chris I hope you can breath now!! For me the jury is still out for the use of the death penalty. I believe that sanity, in this case and in any case must be used, especially by the prosecuting party, otherwise you are no better then the people you are trying to prosecute.

For Me, when I think of "swift justice" I do think of Lynchings, vigilante justice, mobs, etc... my knees will always jerk at the mention of it!!!!

I know that Mr. Nichols will, for lack of better terms, "get what he deserves", but I believe that if go down the road of swift justice, especially when it means the taking of life, we will take on an evil, as you say that "there is no way to reason with", and find ourselves as destructive, if not more, then Mr. Nichols.

Well Chris I hope you can breath [sic] now!

I can't, and won't as long as utopians like you continue to live a fantasy that endangers the safety of my family. You can leave the camera and the lunch, but I'll still bring the rope.

Ken, at least you agree that he committed the crimes, ("even when the crime is as horrendous as the one that Nichols commited"[sic]). You do seem to misunderstand, or else you would not mention lynching and vigilante justice. The point is to get immediate justice, through the system, without the PC bullshit that makes it into a needlessly lengthy ordeal. We know he did it, (as you agree), what is served by letting it drag out? Nothing! Causing the process to last longer does not create a more just verdict. You talk about a "more sane solutions"; just what exactly would be a more sane solution, as you provide no details? He is innocent until proven guilty, and in this case his guilt won't take long to prove. So, why should it be a long process? No sound reason! A swift person will recognize the truth in his guilt, and the reward of an in time verdict. The slow person, the person without moral direction, will want more time to finesse the situation to fit some supposed paradigm of nicey nicey situational interpretation. So, the question to ask yourself is; are you a realist, or a bullshit artist? The realist will want this problem solved and out of their life as soon as possible.

You started out good Rick then you went downhill from the 1st sentence. I do not "misunderstand" that would be you!! Again to me we are talking about "swift justice" and putting inconsistencies in the system. This isn't about PC, this is about the American Way!! Or maybe we should introduce Shia law, which they would probably cut off all of your fingers for such a weak response, but I digress!!

Obviously you and Chris are not reading!!! I am not trying to lengthen or shorten the process, but I do believe that everyone is entitled to due process! I believe that we already have a sane form of justice in place, even though YOU think it is slow and lacks moral direction, because it just doesn't fry the person on the spot. I guess in your reality Rick I am just a Bullshit Artist!!

CAUTION: Ad hominem crossing

Ken, then what are you objecting too? You agree with everything I call for? Swift sure justice. Your insistance on characterizing swift, as barbaric, is asinine. If he is guilty, he is guilty. What are we waiting for? He will not become more, or less, guilty while we wait for you to feel good about making a decision. And, I'll thank you to remember that he is the criminal, for the actions he took, not me for wanting to see him get justice sooner rather than later.
