Variations on a Martin Niemöller theme
They came for the unwanted unborn, and few spoke out against them, so they came up with a solution. And now they can now kill the unborn without hesitation.
Then they came for the sick and infirmed, in pain and suffering, and few spoke out against them, so they came up with a solution. And now the sick and infirmed can kill themselves without objection.
Then they came for the disabled, and argued that they had no quality of life, and few spoke out against them, so they came up with a solution. And now the families can impose a "Death with Dignity" without objection.
And now they are coming again. They talk about people who smoke, people who are overweight, and the elderly being a drain on the health care systems in society. When, I wonder, will they begin to seek a "solution" for them?
And with science and the recently mapped human genome, perhaps they will one day come for you because of some flaw in your DNA - having found a "Final Solution."
Who will be left to speak out on your behalf?
(Who is Martin Niemöller?)

Hey, they know what is best for us and if we are too stupid to recognise it for ourselves then they need to force us to do what they have determined is in our best interest.
When I am old and grey (the grey is already appearing!) thank goodness the government and activist judges will be there to tell me when I need to die. I'll be too old to know when I should off myself and it's nice to know the government will be there to help me.
When my kids get too fat, it's nice to know they will be there to snatch the McDonalds hamburger from their clutches.

Your sarcasm noted. I don't look forward a future where all have to sing, "We Are The World", before ball games. Ball games, by the way, where they don't keep score; because all of the players are winners. And, where all of our decisions are made for us by sheeple who don't the difference between world peace, and whirled peas. We are not there yet, barely, but how did we get so close to that being the reality?

This is really happening in the Netherlands. Doctors in the government run health care system have no problem removing potential "non-contributing" children from their society (over the objections of their parents).
The movie "Gattaca" kind of showed a society where your potential was all mapped in your DNA and the class system that resulted from it.
The Terri Schiavo situation has focused people on some important questions, one of the most important is whom do you let have control over your life.
An adulterous spouse should not be allowed to make a life & death decision over someone they aren't connected to any longer.

This is scary as hell: Eugenics redux. Someone get me a Scotch, neat. (oh wait, alcohol consumption will be next on the list...)
And... hats off to TBR and the above comments.
