Reality Check
At lunch today the restaurant was tuned to CNN. A banner below the picture read, "Terri Sciavo 1963-2005" The sound was down, so, I wasn't forced to hear what was being said. Among their guests was a man who they identified as a "Bioethics Expert".
And I immediately wondered, what makes one an expert in bioethics? This man was a professor, teaching, you guessed it, bioethics. On what foundation of morality was that curriculum decided? Did they start from scratch, or did they start with a time tested set of rules?
My conclusion is that, one day somebody woke up and decided to promote his agenda (secularism) by becoming declaring himself an expert, And, viola, we suddenly had an expert to compete with religious leaders. And CNN gladly puts him in front of their audience because they know the sheeple will eat up anything espoused by a CNN endorsed "expert".
And the reality is; this guy no doubt makes it up on the fly, to suit the events of the day and the outcomes he desires.
Follow-Up - One more source of bioethical decisions occurs to me: the bottom line. Bioethical equals medical ethics equals hospital boards making decisions. So, one other way to become a bioethics expert is to run a hospital?

Ethics can't be learned.
Once you have to read a book to figure out what's right and wrong, then you've lost ethics and morality.

I would disagree, slightly. Ethics can be learned, and need to be set out for all to witness; that is why there are such as the Ten Commandments, and laws. My question remains, what basis do these bioethicists use as a foundation for their analysis? I suspect they use a time tested version, or they have no direction at all, and simply make it up to suit the situation at present.

Bishop TuTu gave a lecture at UVM, in Burlington,VT. It was broadcast on VPR. I must have read much more into his talk than was there because I began to think that it was a religious, conservative message being embraced by a liberal audience on a liberal radioshow. They seemed to understand that we are all made in the image of God and should therefore be accepted, loved and embraced for who we are and esp. what we are. The audience esp. loved the Rainbow analogy. All different colours, all different sizes and shapes loved deeply by God and accepting of eachother as brothers. My brain was copletely filled with the face of Terri Schindler... made in the image of God. A human being to be accepted, loved and embraced for who she is; a sister in Christ(God). So some trumped up bioethicist is goig to tell the entire planet that since Terri has no cognitive awareness, she is no longer human? Does that mean she is now not made in the image of God any longer? And all these liberals clapping uproariously over acceptance, tolerance and brotherhood in Christ. Yesterday tested my sanity moreso than any day I can remember. I was torn between whether to laugh or cry, I did both. ...I just don"t understand how the truth is there and the liberals just won't see it. Can ethics be taught? Yes. But the denial of the Left is a choice made by people that are so sure of their intelligence it renders then ignorant. Bioethicists are bought by the highest bidder in a war on who can create the better Reality. Oh, my gosh... the Pope died. I'm so sorry for the world. God help us.

Cowgal, I was right there with you until the last three sentences? How should I interpret that sentiment? Just as it reads? A parody of the ethicists? Sarcasm?
Perhaps you could flesh that out a bit? Thx.
