Offer: One Statue Dedicated To Liberty
I recently joined the local chapter of a group called FreeCycle whose purpose is to share with other members, for free, items which are no longer needed/wanted. I have accumulated too much stuff over the years, and so, as a recovering packrat, I thought this might be an outlet where I could discard some of the unwanted things without sending them to the trash heap, or being bothered to run an ad for their sale. I thought about this group after once again hearing it mentioned, in connection to the invasion debate, that the Statue of Liberty promises that we will take the world's poor, tired and hungry masses, (they always leave out the "yearning to be free" part which ends that sentence, nor do they mention that the prospects should check in and ask permission to enter). Of course that promise, or invitation, is not part of our laws, but rather is a concept which was gifted, or freecycled, to us by the French; and it may be time to freecycle it elsewhere. Immigrants no longer wish to join the American experience, nor do they respect the processes for their admittance which we, as owners of this country, have established for prospective members. Now they demand to be admitted, and they demand the full rights of citizenship as well; and they want our money, now, too (even the local FreeCycle chapter requires that one submit an application, and admission is contingent upon approval of the chapter's governing agents). Perhaps it is time for another country to bear the burden until we get this situation under control, time for another nation to carry the torch of liberty for awhile. To that end I offer this hypothetical day of freecycle posting.
Day One
Offer: One statue. Previously received from another freecycler. In good condition after recent restoration. Statue is dedicated to liberty and new owner will be required to screen applicants who wish to seek permanent residence upon owner's lands. Owner will further be required to fulfill a wide range of interpretations of the creed which is affixed to the statue, even if such interpretations have no correlation within new owner's laws. Further owner can expect to be harrassed into compliance with interpretations even if such promises conflict with owner's laws. Name calling, and character assasination will ensue following non-compliance with unfounded demands. If you can not pick up, we can arrange delivery. Contact via e-mail.
