NYT Says Kerry Releases Military Records

I heard this mentioned on Fox News this morning, and having heard it before I remain skeptical, but within this article, Kerry Pressing Swift Boat Case Long After Loss - New York Times, Zernike states:

"Mr. Kerry has signed forms authorizing the Navy to release his record "

The last time that news broke the records were shown only to one Boston area reporter who was forbidden from reproducing any part of the record, hardly the sort of verifiable release which Kerry promised the American public, on national television, some 483 days ago.

And, when one needs to reach paragraph fifteen of a thirty-four paragraph piece in order to read that Kerry has signed the release, one has cause to be skeptical. Afterall, the release was the proof Kerry promised would make liars of the Swiftees, and he has so far failed to keep his promise. Not that breaking a promise is tantamount to being a liar yourself, if one is a Democrat. But keeping that promise should have been heralded with trumpets blaring from Martha's Vineyard, or at least presented early in the piece, Instead it was buried halfway down that rambling apology.

Kerry and his supporters have many excuses for why they did not refute the Swiftees with the evidence contained in his records, I'd still prefer the evidence rather than the excuses.

Kerry will release his military records when Bush releases his complete National Guard record, ok? Seriously, with all the issues facing the Republican party and America in general (immigration, oil prices, global warming) in what universe is John Kerry's medaled military service important and useful to anyone. Try to raise your level of discussion a tad above partisan politics. Thanks!

Rose, you seemed to ask a rhetorical question, but you preface it with a list of what you think are important issues. What utterly stuns me - on the traditional observance of Memorial Day, one day after the official holiday no less - is the issue you left out of your less-than-comprehensive list.

In case you might have slept through the last five years, there are United States soldiers and Marines in the field right now, this very second, dying for our right to be free and secure in America. Those men and women are led by an elected commander-in-chief, an office that Mr. Kerry recently sought, and by all accounts he still hopes to achieve someday, perhaps two years from now.

"In what universe is John Kerry's medaled military service important and useful to anyone?" The universe our fighting men and women live in, the same one where those of us who still remember that they remain "standing on the wall" for us, spend much of each day.

We're not engaged in partisan politics here. We're fighting a war. And we'd really appreciate it if someday you'd f**king wake up and realize some people out there in the world are trying to kill you, and that some of your friends are coming close to (indeed, some are actively engaged in) fighting for the wrong side.

Hint: they're also the people who've told you that "global warming" is more serious than a nuclear Iran. How hot do you think the Earth gets when it turns 1 million degrees?

(For the record, Bush has authorized the release of all documents. If you can find any more, Garry Trudeau has $50 grand waiting for you. Happy hunting - I hope you enjoy the smell of rat feces.)

I hesitate to add to Chris's on-point remarks, but do think it worth noting that it is John F'n Kerry who is actively working to clarify his military record; and therefore if anyone is wasting his time on what you consider to be non-consequential matters, it is Kerry. Personaly, I do believe it is important for Kerry to keep his promise to release his records, and if he really wants to put the controversy of his service behind him he must keep that promise. For, if we can not see his service records, we can not believe his version. It is such an easy thing for him to do, why hasn't he done it yet?
