Reality Check- A Comprehensive Solution
Every once in awhile it is worth it to open an e-mail. Yesterday, for example, Steve sent this funny spoof.
Today I was rewarded with this short and truly resourceful fix.
This makes sense..... something our government rarely does.......... Why didn't I think of it..........or better yet, why didn't the Government?WIN WIN WIN......
A win win win situation: Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border, take the dirt and raise the levies in New Orleans, and then put the Florida alligators into the border moat!
Any other problems you would like for me to solve?
Clever.
Another solution of note comes from Mike Pence (R) Indiana, who, btw, is the only person besides myself to be calling for an end to citizenship for children born to illegals. aka "birthright citizenship"
From a speech he made on Memorial Day:
" One week ago President Bush set out his views on immigration reform to the American people. He stated: “There is a rational middle ground between granting an automatic path to citizenship for every illegal immigrant, and a program of mass deportation.”I agree with the President that a rational middle ground can be found between amnesty and mass deportation, but I disagree with the President that amnesty is the middle ground. Amnesty is not the real rational middle ground. In the coming days I will introduce the Border Integrity and Immigration Reform Act, which as I will discuss today sets forth a real rational middle ground between amnesty and mass deportations.
The Border Integrity and Immigration Reform Act is a bill that is tough on border security and tough on employers who hire illegal aliens, but recognizes the need for a guest worker program that operates without amnesty and without growing into a huge new government bureaucracy. I believe that it is a strong alternative to the amnesty plan being debated by the Senate and pushed by the President, and I hope that it will serve as an attractive alternative to Members of the House."
and then later this:
"Imagine for a moment asking millions of people to line up at the U.S. Consulate in Mexico City to obtain a visa to come to America and work as a guest worker. It would be a disaster. Now, imagine private companies competing against each other to process guest worker applicants and match the applicants with open jobs. Imagine the application of American business ingenuity to this process. That, my friends, is why this program will work.Let me give you a few other details on the guest worker program. The visas will be referred to as “W Visas.” (No kidding.) I think it is obvious whose support we are trying to garner here. Seriously, the W Visa results from a fortuitous instance of bill drafting. The code already has visa categories for letters A through V, so W is the next open letter. The W Visa, without amnesty, would be the real rational middle ground that the President has called our nation to in this debate. "
Now that is some American thinking going on there. If we can get the "birthright citizenship" fixed too, then my work on this issue is done, (until Congress screws it up with future amendments to unrelated Bills, as is their way).

I am so ashamed that I wasted my vote on a low life oligarch like george warmonger bush. It is clear that 21st century republicanism is all about making the rich richer by screwing over the middle class and poor to get there. Even human lives mean nothing to this current generation of republicans and their daddy bush. There is a very special dark place in hell for bush and his supporters and the religious right wing of this nation should be very ashamed by the fact that they let the republican party take advantage of their ignorance and one dimensional voting behavior in order to seize power. I will never make the mistake of voting republican ever again. Thanks for all the memories GOP.

Whether you are a "patriot" or not remains in doubt, but clearly you are no conservative. And that's fine - not everyone can be, though we'll try to make things otherwise. Regardless... the next time you post here, can you be a little more pertinent and constructive?

And you think that Bush and this current genre of Republican lawmakers are somehow conservative??? Not hardly... This is no longer the republican party of Abraham Lincoln. The wasteful, unconstitutional and treasonous actions of this president and Republican lawmakers are all the evidence anyone needs. The last 5 years have been like watching history in the making. Once these neoconservatives infiltrated the ranks of the republican party, they steered it away from a conservative party that is somehow of, by or for the people. Bill Clinton was far more conservative then Bush and the country prospered under his administration. The track record over the last five years is proof that the Republican party is now the party of the rich corporate elite and large corporations. It is ironic that the Republican party has had the chance to show the world what they are made of since they siezed political power and it is the total opposite of what they claim they are for. Bush & Cheney have successfully pimped the presidency and turned the Senate into an auction house for special interest legislation to the highest bidder. Bush snubbed the NAACP for years and now all of sudden when his approval ratings are rock bottom it is convenient for him to start talking to the NAACP. Now that he can no longer hide behind the lie of conservative values and jingoistic patriotism, his filthy reflectin is out in the open. Of course, he still seems to get away with using Christianity as a shield to ward off criticism when his treasonous misdeads are expsosed. Since the bulk of the religious right wing of this nation is one dimensional in its voting habits and will vote for any charleton who claims to be moral or against abortion, potential republican candidates still have that going for them. I'm a thousand times more conservative then you can imaging. The only difference between those like me and our current republican lawmakers is the fact that I really am conservative and they are conservative only in word. Their actions are very anti-conservative and worse then thier own corrupt presentation of liberalism as they seek to manipulate the impressionable who simply don't realize what that word really means.
