Word!

Michael Richards said the "n-word" in anger and denied African American patrons a night of entertainment, which is a civil rights violation. Andy Dick entertained his patrons, but at the end called everyone the "n-word." Damon Waynas called the night designated for African American entertainers the "N-Night," alleviating I think by saying, see I'm also entertaining people and getting paid. Michael Richards and Andy Dick said it and apologized, but African Americans don't really have to apologize. Are we experiencing some sort of 'Al Jolson' Justice in America by these occurrences?

But, with concern about these occurrences, what if it was discovered that Black Face was subtly portrayed on the face of President Lincoln or at the heart of the GOP Elephant, it would mean that there is an influence to retrogress.

This came to me that no other Nation in the history of the earth fought a civil war to free slaves of another race to give them human and civil rights, understanding that this nation is notable for being Progressive in Liberty and Freedom. Could the writer of the Pledge of Allegiance that was inspired by the Civil War mean, "...with Liberty and 'Al Jolson' Justice for all?" )-8

I get tired of so many white people making the argument that, "since black people use the word, white people should be able to use the word."

White people who make this argument, pay little to no attention to the reality that the Intent behind the usage of the word, is the Main Difference when blacks use it, vs. when whites do.

Micheal Richards did not have a meltdown. He simply didn't realize that What he said would get out onto the internet. He said what he truly felt. He feels that black people are Niggers.

To address black people as niggers - is insulting. Because of the intention.

When Damon Wayans says tonight is Nigga Night, he's not calling everyone in the room ignorant, dumb, or lesser than he is. He is in fact referring to Equality - saying 'hey, we're all brothers in here, we're all equal, we all have a shared experience as black people in america."

He's not insulting them. He's not suggesting that he's Superior; Which is indeed what white people often do.

I'm not aware of the Andy Dick performance but it sounds like, his intentions were the same as Damon Wayans, and NOT the same as Micheal Richards.

From how you've typed it up, it sounds as if he meant, "goodnight, brothers and sisters, my loyal fans, my equals." It does not sound as if Andy Dick was insulting his Entire audience by proclaiming that HE is indeed, Superior.

As Intelligent as white people generally consider themselves to be, I am shocked that in 2006 they still by and large do not know the difference between a black person calling another black person a nigga, and a white person, calling a black person a nigger - and no, It's not the spelling or pronounciation of the word.

Thanks, king. That was an eloquent defense of applying double-standards to civil discourse based on skin color. I'm sure the Klan is real happy for the work you're doing for them.

Mr King,

As a white person, I find the word disgusting regardless of who is using it. How anyone who lived through the civil rights movement could justify using the word is beyond me.

While I agree that when used by a white person it is a sign of bigotry, but when used by a black, it would appear to me to be an expression of low self esteem...something which fuels those ignorant jerks in the white robes. For someone to use the term that was intended to degrade a race and make them seem sub-human, as a greeting or a term of endearment, just amazes me.

Maybe those who use it, who are in many cases the same people who are killing their own over drugs and turf, do have a self esteem problem and want to drag everyone down with them.

The bottom line is that this word is now yours and you can choose to let it die the death that it deserves, or continue to feed and nurture it for future generations.
