Is Mother Nature having hot flashes?

Chris and I were discussing this article at lunch the other day ( A big hat tip BTW to Phil Brennan at NewsMax and Mandy and her minions over at the WINK Newsradio/Daybreak site!) and I was telling him of some of the surprising (to me at least) scientific findings discussed in the article. One of the more fascinating facts is this one:

The world's oceans are being heated by underwater tectonic activity — underwater volcanic eruptions and blisteringly hot magma seeping up from cracks in the sea floor.

The heated ocean water creates high levels of CO2 that it sends aloft along with huge amounts of moisture. That moisture becomes precipitation — rain in the spring, summer, and fall, and snow in the winter. Increased amounts of moisture in the upper atmosphere equals increased amounts of precipitation.

The hotter the oceans, the more water vapor sent heavenward and the heavier the precipitation. This explains the large number of record-breaking rainfalls we've been seeing in the past couple of years — with as noted above, areas of the United States getting 20 inches of rain in a day or so.

As for that dreaded greenhouse gas, CO2, atmospheric levels of which now exceed 400 parts per million (ppm), it is important to note that paleological records show that every time CO2 levels have exceeded 300 ppm there has been an ice age. Every time — without exception.

After relating this interesting information to Chris, he decided to try to play the roll of Maja Rushie (Rush Limabaugh) and make this prediction:
"In 10 years we will be in a verifiable Global Cooling phase and those that are screeching today about Global Warming will be claiming then that all the underground Nuclear testing has caused the oceanic volcanoes, and that they were right all along that Global Warming (via these oceanic volcanoes) caused the Global Cooling and the coming Ice Age."

While this prediction is just outlandish enough to actually come true, I had to ask Chris to amend the prediction just a bit, because I don't think the "GlobeWarms" will fault Nuclear testing - that too 60's! No, they will blame all the drilling for oil - and the Unites States for demanding all that oil - and claim that (1) all those empty pockets (where the oil used to be) needed to be filled with something - so (2) they all got filled with magma, (3) heating the earth, (4) causing increased precipitation, (5) causing increased CO2 levels and more snow in the winter months, (6) causing the new ice age.

How about that. The same six degrees of Global Warming works for Global Cooling too!

And in other Global Warming news, have you heard about these benefit concerts that AlGore - Doctor of Climatology, Inventor of the Internet, and all around good guy - wants to produce? His proposal is for "Live Earth" to be a 24-hour concert, held in July, broadcast simultaneously from different cities around the world. He must've been compelled to choose July because, of course, there's too much snow around to do a Global Warming concert right now!

Well, it seems Dr. Al is insisting that one of the concert venues be... (drum roll please) Antarctica! Be careful Al, you're taking a pretty big risk here, given the fact that you have had to cancel "Inconvenient Truth" Global Warming speaking engagements twice in two years due to inclement weather - SNOW!

Dr. Al wants to shine a spotlight on himself and try to put on a concert not only in Antarctica, but also in the cities of Johannesburg and Sydney, among others. I don't think he realizes that Antarctica and those two cities are in the Southern Hemisphere and that in July they will be in the middle of winter!

The mean teperature in Sidney in July is 54ºF, while Johannesburg's is 52ºF. Now that's the MEAN - which means that there is a 50% chance that it could be colder. Indeed, the average low for both cities is in the low 40sºF. And while that is not likely to be cold enough for snow, it could very well be cold enough for the concert goers to need to a thick coat and gloves.

Here's a clue Al - having a concert to promote the cause of Global Warming where the audience is wearing winter coats and gloves may not go over too well. Just a thought!

Oh, and did anyone else happen to see the fine debunking Sean Hannity gave the ol Internet inventor himself? Well, in case you missed it...

I'd heard about the six degrees of global warming skit, thanks for the link, it lived up to its reputation, hilarious!
