"No slacker"

Jeff Nelligan, former staffer at the Government Accountability Office, says that about the newest entrant to the Presidential sweepstakes. Big Fred grinds it out, he says, while posting a nice analysis why the rumor keeps popping up that Thompson is lazy. I'll tease it for you: it has something to do with the ADD suffered by the sound-bite press.

This subject always reminds me of the power of napping, as demonstrated by such luminaries as Thomas Edison, coupled with the advice of John Wooden "be quick, but don't hurry". The point being, maximizing one's effectiveness is a process, not a performance. When Edison, et al, napped they may have appeared lazy, but were actually tapping into their energy and intelligence. They arrived at the best answers quicker than does someone who wastes energy while appearing to be busy.

While there are truly lazy people, they do not become high achievers. And some of them seem busy all the time, though they are only busy looking busy and never actually stop to think their way to an advancement. (like the US Congress, for example)

I'll take a man like Thompson, who has succeeded in many sectors, over someone who looks busy but never gets anything done. The lazy tag is bogus, imo.
