This is why we like Fred Thompson.

Given the fact that he is at least second now in most polls (see this and this) even though he has yet to officially declare his candidacy, it's becoming obvious that Fred Thompson is going to change the way political campaigns are run from this point onward.

And just to toot our own horn a bit here, we here at TBR have been talking about Fred for quite a while now and were, as far as I know, the first to suggest what is becoming a favorite prognostication out in the blogosphere... Thompson/Steele '08.

The first thing I heard was Fred Thompson saying something like "they would like nothing better than see a mushroom cloud over our cities".

This took me back to the time I saw the world's first Hydrogen Bomb cloud over our ship in the Pacific. I could fill pages, however it is enough to say that at that moment I wondered how I could show the world. Then there would never be war again. That is what should have happened after our war with Japan. It is not the fault of the Japanese who have tried and tried to get these monster bombs outlawed. So I decided to make a website to show the world the suffering by the Japanese so they could become more afraid of something that without any doubt will happen here in the United States. The only pol that mentioned this has caused me to look hard at him and now I am a rabid supporter. See The Destruction Of Japan. MyManFred.com

Thanks for the comment, Don. Sorry it took so long to approve - I never got my usual email that there was one, and I don't usually check the buffer unless there's an email.

My Dad was also a part of Operation Ivy, since he was detached to the Atomic Energy Commision as an Air Force staff NCO working for one of the scientists. (For the life of me, I can never remember which.) He also went back to the Pacific later for Operation Castle.

I'd appreciate hearing more details of your service, if you're willing. Slim as the possibility is in that big ocean, maybe you and my Dad crossed paths during the tests.
