I'm only gonna say this once
Again over at Ace of Spades HQ, contributor DrewM. posts a video along with a quote from President Clinton. As Drew puts it, I have to "give the devil his due": I agree with Bill Clinton.
Now that that's out of the way, I have a very special invitation waiting at the jump - something else that I'll only say once.
Everyone, but most especially the supporters of Ron Paul, need to see the video Drew posted and take its lesson to heart:
Where are you Doug? This is the endgame for the path you're going down, so if you want to defend and promote Ron Paul, now is the time. Come back here and tell me that you repudiate this guy and the corrupt piece of garbage he's selling. If you don't, you're just as bad as he is - in fact, you're worse, because at least that moron had the guts to spew his crap at Bill Clinton. You've been talking a lot about the Founders lately, but where would we be if they had not sacrificed themselves in a manner like Harold Russell did? Ask Russell if it was worth it. Ask a veteran of today's conflict if his sacrifices are worth it.
You've been all wide-eyed and idealistic, as you've begun to awaken to the truths you think you've found, and the realization that you've got to do something about it. And though I think you're ending up at the wrong conclusions, I do think you're headed in the right direction, starting with the fact that you've got to stand up for your part of the franchise.
So if I'm wrong, if the lives lost in Iraq and Afghanistan have been in vain like the loss of Harold Russell's arms, come here and explain it to me. The punched-out lunch counter patron says, "Just look at the facts." Give us some of those facts, Doug. Explain it to us how hiding under a rock would have done any more good in 2001 as it would have done in 1941.

I feel that todays soldiers, the ones sent to Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere around the world, the ones being killed, maimed, disfigured, etc are being injured because of a war we were railroaded into by the current administration.
I am empathetic to their injuries. I can share a small part of their pain, and feel compassion for their situation (or lack of it if they never return home alive). I see the pain in children's eyes when they watch their mother or father leave for a deployment in Iraq. I cannot even imagine what it must be like for these children to watch their parent(s) leave for war, not knowing if they will ever return.
But, the fact that I can feel compassion for their injuries or understand the pain these soldier families face when someone does not return from war does not change my position that we went to war (and continue our national bully mentality) that was rushed into due to misinformation, was never declared by the Congress of the United States, and was the first preemptive war in our nations history. Fir the first time in history, the United States was an aggressor. We started the war with Iraq.
Should we leave these soldiers in Iraq and wait for them to be maimed before we bring them home? How many other American men and women soldiers need to lose their lives, lose limbs, etc before we realize that we (as a nation) could have made a mistake in our judgement prior to going to war with Iraq. Maybe we rushed into something where we didn't have all the facts.
But, now that we know we made a mistake, we should try everything we can to fix the mistake. Not by staying in a country for the next 100 years, and building permanent bases in a sovereign nation to protect "our oil". We have a huge problem in this country that is just starting to rear its head, and that's our economy. We can not afford the war (regardless of whatever position you take). Its time to leave, it's time to honor our servicemen, it's time to start fixing our country from the inside. How can we hope to spread democracy to other people if our own democracy is losing traction inside of our own country.
Your position that "hiding under a rock" will not do any good in either case is flawed in my opinion. Why don't you read Ron Pauls position on Entangling Alliances to see how your consistent "isolationist" argument is flawed, and a misunderstanding of his position.
Hopefully someone will respond... Last time there were 0 replies.

FYI: I'm usually quite particular about reading comments and approving them, but I'm under the gun right now at work, so Doug's comment has been approved unread. Of course, since he's a contributor here he probably could have approved it himself (I have to check the settings). And then of course he could have logged in using TypeKey, but that's probably too technical for him. But ultimately I wanted to reply to bolster his ego, since he thinks we were ignoring him the last time. I'll try to read and respond later. :)
